What is a salary tax calculator?

A salary tax calculator converts your gross annual income into the take-home pay you'll actually see in your bank account, after national income tax is applied. It works by running your salary through your country's progressive tax brackets — different slices of your income are taxed at different rates, so the more you earn, the higher your effective rate. Knowing your true net salary is essential before negotiating a job offer, comparing offers across countries, planning a move, or building a household budget. Headline gross numbers are misleading: an $80,000 job in one country can leave you with thousands more take-home than $90,000 in another.

How to estimate your take-home pay

Pick your country, enter your gross annual income in the local currency, and the calculator returns your estimated annual tax, net annual pay, monthly net, and your overall effective tax rate. The per-bracket breakdown shows exactly how much tax you owe in each band — useful for understanding why your marginal rate (the rate on your next dollar earned) is higher than your effective rate (your average rate across all income). Try comparing two salary scenarios, like a raise from $70k to $90k, to see how much of the increase is actually take-home.

What this take-home pay calculator does not include

This is a simplified national-tax estimator. It does not include state, provincial, or city income taxes, social security or payroll contributions (FICA in the US, NI in the UK, equivalents elsewhere), pension contributions, healthcare deductions, student loan repayments, or tax credits and standard deductions. For most countries the missing pieces add up to several percent of gross income, so treat the result as a close ceiling on your real take-home. For a precise paycheck calculation, use your country's official tax authority calculator or speak to a licensed tax professional.
